FAQ

Frequently asked questions about DevBay

General questions
What is DevBay? +
DevBay is a secure IT platform for clients, freelancers and development teams. We help both sides run deals through an escrow mechanic, lock in working terms, store project results and reduce risk on both sides. The platform fits website and app development, MVPs, backend/frontend work, DevOps, CyberSecurity, code review, independent quality assessment and other IT directions.
Who is DevBay built for? +
DevBay is built for clients who want a predictable result and protected budget; freelancers who want to get paid safely for completed work; developers and IT specialists who want to build up a portfolio, rating and reviews; teams that collaborate on projects; HR specialists and companies looking for verified IT contractors.
How is DevBay different from regular freelance marketplaces? +
DevBay's main difference is its focus on a secure IT deal and a controlled outcome. The platform combines payment escrow, secure chat and calls, free Git for work storage, virtual machines for project demos, the ability to assemble a team for a project, partner DevOps, CyberSecurity and code review services, rating, reviews and specialist CVs, plus the option of further recruiting strong contractors. DevBay isn't just a job board — it's infrastructure for safe development.
Escrow and deal safety
How does escrow work on DevBay? +
Escrow protects both sides of a deal. The client reserves payment for a task or project milestone. The contractor performs the work according to agreed terms. After reviewing the result, the client confirms completion and the contractor receives the payment. This reduces the non-payment risk for the contractor and the loss risk for the client.
Why should a client use escrow? +
Escrow helps the client avoid sending money directly to an unknown contractor, pay only for an agreed result, split the project into stages, lock in working terms, safely change the contractor when needed and get a more predictable development process.
Why should a contractor use escrow? +
Escrow lets the contractor see that payment for the work is already reserved, avoid working "on trust" without guarantees, get paid after agreed conditions are met, build up rating and reviews and confirm experience through real, completed projects.
Can a project be split into milestones? +
Yes. A project can be split into separate stages: analysis, design, frontend, backend, DevOps, testing, release, support and other parts. This approach lets the client keep an eye on progress and lets the contractor get paid as work is delivered.
What if the contractor isn't coping? +
If work isn't moving or quality doesn't meet expectations, the client can replace the contractor within the project. DevBay is set up so the client reaches a result even if the team composition has to change mid-project. It's important to lock in requirements, stages and acceptance criteria in advance — that makes disputes much easier to resolve.
What if the client refuses to accept completed work? +
The contractor must deliver according to the agreed terms, task description and acceptance criteria. If the work has been done correctly, the escrow model protects the contractor from unreasonable refusal to pay. We recommend keeping all communication, task statements and result handoffs inside the platform so the history of agreements is preserved.
Working with projects
Can I assemble a team of developers for a single project? +
Yes. DevBay lets you assemble a team of specialists for one project. For example, the client can bring on a frontend developer, a backend developer, a DevOps engineer, a security specialist and a technical consultant. This works well for MVPs, startups, enterprise projects and any task where a single contractor isn't enough.
Can developers be replaced mid-project? +
Yes. If a project needs a specialist replaced or a new member added, the team composition can change as needed. The platform's goal isn't just to find a contractor — it's to help the client reach a predictable result.
Which specialists can work on DevBay? +
Specialists from various IT directions can work on the platform: frontend developers, backend developers, fullstack developers, mobile developers, DevOps engineers, CyberSecurity specialists, QA engineers, UI/UX designers, analysts, tech leads, code reviewers, architects and MVP/product-launch specialists.
Can DevBay be used for an MVP? +
Yes. DevBay fits MVP development well, because the client can assemble a team for the task, use the platform Git, rent a virtual machine for the result demo, control the stages of development, plug in DevOps or code audit and safely run payment through escrow.
Git and work storage
Does DevBay provide Git? +
Yes. DevBay provides its own Git for running and storing project work free of charge. It helps store code centrally, track changes, hand the project between contractors and preserve the development history.
Why use the platform's Git? +
Git inside the platform lets you store project code in one place, see change history, simplify handing the project to another developer, run code review, confirm completed work and improve transparency between client and contractor.
Can I store the project in my own GitHub or GitLab? +
Depending on the project's terms, the sides can use external repositories, but for maximum transparency and deal safety we recommend running the main work through the Git provided by DevBay.
Virtual machines and project demos
Does DevBay provide virtual machines? +
Yes. For a small fee the platform provides virtual machines with public IP addresses. They can be used to demo a working project, an MVP, a test stand, a backend service, an API, a staging environment or temporary deployments.
What are virtual machines for on the platform? +
Virtual machines help show the client a working project, deploy an MVP, test a backend or an API, run a demo without setting up third-party hosting, build a staging environment and verify a project before the final release.
Can I use a virtual machine only for the duration of the project? +
Yes. Virtual machines can be used as temporary infrastructure for development, testing or result demonstration.
DevOps, CyberSecurity and code review
What extra services are available on DevBay? +
Through the platform's partners, additional IT services may be available: DevOps, CyberSecurity, code review, independent code quality assessment, architecture audit, security check, server and environment setup, and infrastructure consulting.
Why do I need independent code review? +
Independent code review helps the client understand how well the work was done, whether there are critical bugs, how maintainable the code is, whether there are security issues, whether the project can be handed to another team and whether the result matches the stated requirements. It's especially useful when working with a new contractor, an MVP, complex backend systems and commercial products.
When should I bring in a CyberSecurity specialist? +
Bring in a CyberSecurity specialist if the project handles payments, personal data, user accounts, APIs, admin panels, crypto, enterprise data or sensitive business logic. A security check reduces the risk of vulnerabilities, leaks and post-launch incidents.
When is DevOps needed? +
DevOps is needed if the project has to be deployed on a server, set up with CI/CD, connected to a domain and SSL, configured with Docker, prepared for production or staging, optimised infrastructure-wise or kept stable in operation.
Communication and work inside the platform
Is there a chat in DevBay? +
Yes. The platform has a secure chat for communication between clients, contractors and team members. We recommend keeping working communication inside the platform so the history of agreements, tasks and decisions is preserved.
Can I run audio and video calls? +
Yes. DevBay supports audio and video calls, screen share and scheduled calls. Convenient for discussing requirements, demoing progress, technical consultations and team work.
Can calls be scheduled in advance? +
Yes. Calls can be scheduled on the platform. This helps structure team work and keep the project regularly synchronised.
Can I share my screen? +
Yes. Screen sharing is available for discussing interfaces, code, architecture, bugs, tasks and interim results.
Rating, reviews and specialist CVs
How can a client evaluate a contractor? +
The client can rely on the specialist's rating, reviews from previous clients, completed projects, communication quality, the specialist's CV, the results of test or commercial tasks and platform recommendations.
Why does a contractor need a rating? +
Rating helps the contractor build client trust, get more orders and apply for more interesting projects. For top contractors, the rating can also become a basis for offers of short- and long-term contracts.
Can I upload a CV? +
Yes. If a specialist wants to be noticed by recruiters or get job offers, they can add a CV. The CV complements the rating, reviews and history of completed projects.
Can DevBay help with employment? +
Yes. The platform pays special attention to top contractors. Such specialists may be offered short- and long-term contracts directly by HR specialists and partners. Rating, reviews, CV and quality of completed work can all serve as proof of qualification.
For clients
Why should a client work through DevBay? +
DevBay helps the client safely reserve payment, control project execution, work with one contractor or a team, store code in Git, demo the project on a virtual machine, plug in DevOps, CyberSecurity and code audit, reduce the risk of poor results and change contractors when needed.
Can I find a whole team instead of a single developer? +
Yes. DevBay lets you form a team for the project. This is especially useful for complex tasks that need different roles: frontend, backend, DevOps, QA, security, design or technical management.
What if I'm not a technical person? +
If you're not a technical specialist, you can use additional platform and partner services: code review, independent quality assessment, DevOps, CyberSecurity and technical consulting. This lets you accept work based on a professional check, not just by feel.
Can I verify the quality of the contractor's work? +
Yes. You can use an independent code quality assessment, code review or technical audit. Such a check helps understand how suitable the result is for further support and growth.
For contractors
Why should a contractor work through DevBay? +
DevBay helps the contractor get paid more safely, work on clear terms, store results in Git, demo work to the client, build up rating and reviews, confirm qualifications and get project and contract offers.
Does the contractor have to pay to participate? +
Basic platform features can be available for free, including using Git for running and storing the work. Specific extra services such as virtual machines may be provided for a small fee.
How can a contractor build client trust? +
We recommend filling in the profile in detail, specifying your specialisation, adding a CV, keeping communication inside the platform, delivering tasks on time, using Git, collecting reviews after completed work and keeping a high rating.
Can a contractor land a contract through DevBay? +
Yes. If a specialist shows a high level of work, gets good reviews and keeps a strong rating, the platform may notice them and offer short- or long-term contracts through HR partners.
Payments and settlements
How does payment work? +
Payments run through a secure deal model. The client reserves funds, the contractor performs the work, then the result is checked and the payment is released to the contractor according to the project terms.
Can work be paid for in milestones? +
Yes. For larger projects we recommend splitting payment into milestones. This lowers the risk and makes the process more transparent for both sides.
What's better: one large payment or several milestones? +
For most IT projects it's better to use several milestones. For example: spec, prototype or design, frontend, backend, integrations, testing, deployment, final acceptance. The client sees progress and the contractor gets paid gradually.
Disputes and quality control
What if a dispute arises? +
If a dispute arises, it's important to rely on the task description, agreed requirements, message history, materials in Git, demo results, acceptance criteria and, if it was set up, the independent quality assessment. The more thoroughly the working terms are recorded, the easier it is to resolve a dispute.
How can I reduce the chance of a dispute? +
We recommend describing the task as concretely as possible up front, splitting the project into stages, locking in acceptance criteria, using Git, holding regular calls, demoing interim results and bringing in independent code review for complex projects.
Can the client review the code before paying? +
Yes. The client can review the result themselves or bring in an independent code quality assessment through the platform's partners.
Confidentiality and security
Is communication inside DevBay safe? +
Yes. DevBay provides a secure chat for working communications. It helps preserve the history of discussions, decisions and agreements inside a single platform.
Should I discuss the project outside the platform? +
We recommend keeping key working communication inside DevBay. It protects both sides and preserves the evidence of agreements if a dispute arises.
Where is it better to store work results? +
It's better to store work results in the Git provided by the platform. This improves transparency, simplifies project handoff and helps keep development under control.
Short version
What does the client get? +
The client gets a safer way to hire IT contractors, control work, store code, demo results, plug in technical experts and reduce risk.
What does the contractor get? +
The contractor gets safe payment, transparent working terms, a rating, reviews, a way to confirm qualifications and a chance to receive direct project or contract offers.
What is DevBay's main goal? +
DevBay's main goal is to make IT freelance more predictable and safer: the client gets a result, the contractor gets paid for completed work.
